◉ PRODUCT SPECIFICATION
1. Standard Designations
309: UNS S30900 / ASTM A240
309S: UNS S30908 / ASTM A240 (**
EURONORM: 1.4828 (Approximately)
JIS: SUH 309 / SUS 309S
GB/T: 12Cr23Ni13 (309) / 022Cr23Ni13 (309S, approximately)
2. Chemical Composition (% by weight, Key Difference)
Note: The key difference is the maximum Carbon content. 309S's low carbon provides superior resistance to intergranular corrosion.
3. Mechanical Properties (at Room Temperature, for Annealed Condition)
4. High-Temperature Properties
This is the primary application area for 309/309S.
Recommended Continuous Service Temperature: Up to 1095°C (2000°F) for intermittent service and 1010°C (1850°F) for continuous service in oxidizing atmospheres.
Oxidation Resistance: Excellent, due to high chromium content which forms a stable, protective chromia scale.
Cyclic Oxidation Resistance: Superior to 310S in applications involving repeated heating and cooling cycles.
5. Physical Properties (Typical)
6. Corrosion Resistance
High-Temperature Oxidation: Primary strength, excellent resistance to scaling.
General Corrosion: Good resistance to many oxidizing chemicals and atmospheric conditions at room temperature.
Intergranular Corrosion: 309S offers significantly better resistance in welded and high-temperature applications compared to standard 309.
7. Available Product Range (Plates)
8. Typical Applications
Furnace Components: Heat treatment fixtures, radiant tubes, muffles.
Thermal Processing: Refinery and chemical furnace parts, oven liners.
Welding Consumables: Used as filler metal for welding dissimilar metals (e.g., mild steel to stainless steel) and for cladding.
Kiln Furniture: Supports and fixtures in ceramic and sintering industries.
